Telugu cinema icon Chiranjeevi is under fire on social media after a comment he made during his appearance at the Telangana Rising Global Summit triggered criticism for what many called a “poor choice of words.”
The actor attended the event alongside NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery and industrialist Anand Mahindra. While addressing the gathering, Chiranjeevi recalled how he was invited to the summit — a description that many felt was awkward and poorly phrased.
During his speech, Chiranjeevi said he was “dancing with a girl” at Annapurna Studios when Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu arrived to personally invite him on behalf of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
“You may feel that every other chief guest present here belongs to fields such as finance, automobile, or politics… You might feel like, what is a film star like Chiranjeevi doing here? Not just you, even I feel that way,” the actor began.
He then added, “Do you know what position I was in when they came to invite me? Evaro ammai to dance chestu unnanu Annapurna Studios lo (I was dancing with some girl at Annapurna Studios). I felt very awkward. I had to ask them to stop shooting for a while.”
Online Backlash: “Unnecessary, Awkward… He Could Have Said It Better”
The remark immediately drew reactions across social media platforms, especially on X (formerly Twitter), where several users criticised the actor for bringing up the “girl” reference unnecessarily.
Comments included:
- “He has completely lost his senses. Bringing up a ‘girl’ topic was totally unnecessary. He could have simply said he was shooting.”
- “Boss has lost his charm and everything.”
- “At some point, we should stop inviting celebrities who can’t control their words to this kind of summit.”
- “I think when we grow up we lose control over our choice of words.”
While some fans defended him, calling the comment harmless and taken out of context, others insisted public figures should be mindful of how they phrase such anecdotes at high-profile platforms.
Upcoming Films
On the work front, Chiranjeevi is busy with an interesting lineup of films:
- Vishwambhara – slated for release in summer 2026
- Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu
- An untitled film with director Srikanth Odela
The actor continues to be one of the biggest names in Telugu cinema, though his recent comment has sparked conversations about celebrity responsibility and public communication.
