Chiranjeevi Draws Flak for “Awkward” Comment at Telangana Rising Global Summit

Telugu actor Chiranjeevi has faced sharp criticism online for a comment he made during his speech at the Telangana Rising Global Summit in Hyderabad on Tuesday, an event attended by dignitaries like CM A Revanth Reddy and industrialist Anand Mahindra.

The actor’s remark about the circumstances of his invitation has been widely deemed “unnecessary” and poorly phrased for a global business and political forum.

What Chiranjeevi Said

Chiranjeevi began by admitting he felt out of place among the chief guests from finance, automobile, and politics. He then recounted how CM Revanth Reddy had to insist on his presence, sending the Deputy CM and IT Minister to invite him.

The comment that drew criticism was his description of the situation when the ministers arrived:

“Do you know what position I was in when they came to invite me? Evaro ammai to dance chestu unnanu Annapurna Studios lo (I was dancing with some girl at Annapurna Studios). I felt very awkward. I had to ask them to stop shooting for a while.”

The Internet’s Reaction

The internet, particularly users on X (formerly Twitter), expressed disappointment and confusion over the actor’s choice of words, especially on such a high-profile stage.

  • “Unnecessary” Detail: Many users argued that mentioning “some girl” was irrelevant and inappropriate for a global summit. One user wrote, “He has completely lost his senses. Bringing up a ‘girl’ topic was totally unnecessary here. He could have simply said he was in a shooting.”
  • Poor Judgment: Others criticized the lack of control over his speech, questioning his judgment for bringing up such a trivial detail at a formal event. Comments included: “At some point of time we should stop inviting celebrities who cannot have control on words to this kind of submit,” and “Yakada emi matladalo teliyakapote yala boss (How come you don’t know what to talk about and when, Boss?).”

Chiranjeevi was last seen in the 2023 films Waltair Veerayya and Bhola Shankar and has several films, including Vishwambhara, currently lined up.
