Chinese President Xi Jinping Slams ‘Bullying Behaviour’ At SCO Summit Amid Tensions With US

TIANJIN, CHINA – Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 on Monday and blasted what he called “bullying behavior” in the world order. Xi told the leaders of the SCO member states, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to “adhere to fairness and justice and work together to oppose Cold War mentality, camp confrontation, and bullying behavior.” This was seen as a message to the United States and President Donald Trump.

The Chinese president’s comments come at a time when tensions with the US are high. The US put tariffs on Chinese commodities that were more than 100% of their value, which led to a significant trade war between the two countries. There was a trade deal in the end, but the tensions that caused it have stayed and harmed other countries as well.

The report makes it clear that these conflicts aren’t simply happening in China. The Trump administration recently put a 50% tax on India because New Delhi was buying cheap Russian oil during the war in Ukraine. Trump has also met with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy separately. These encounters have been interpreted as attempts to unilaterally change the course of global crises.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit is taking place in Tianjin, China, and lasts for two days. Some of the most important members are China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. There are also 16 more countries that are part of the organization as observers or “dialogue partners.”
