Chhattisgarh Schools Adopt ‘Bagless Learning Model’ To Reduce Student Burden

Balrampur (Chhattisgarh) [India]: In a pioneering move to reduce the academic burden on students, eight government schools in Balrampur’s Chandra Nagar area have implemented a ‘bagless learning model’ under an initiative by the State Education Department.

Bagless Learning: A Step Towards Stress-Free Education

Under this initiative, students from Classes 1 to 8 are required to carry only a notebook and pen, eliminating the need for heavy school bags. District Education Officer DN Mishra highlighted the stress-free learning experience this model has created for young students.

“We have made the schools of Chandra Nagar area of Ramchandrapur development block bagless. Students only carry a notebook and pen. Alongside studies, vocational training such as sewing has been introduced. We are planning to expand this model across the district,” he said.

The holistic approach not only reduces physical strain on students but also enhances experiential learning, making classrooms more engaging.

Student and Teacher Reactions

Students have expressed relief and happiness at not having to carry heavy school bags daily.

“I now carry just one book to school because we have two sets of books—one for home and one for school. Earlier, carrying a heavy bag was a struggle. But thanks to our teachers, we can now study comfortably,” said a student.

Headmaster’s Perspective:
The headmaster explained how the book-sharing system is implemented efficiently.

“Our goal with the ‘bagless’ initiative is to ease the burden on children. Old books are collected and redistributed to the next class, while new books are kept in a designated ‘book corner’ within the school. Since COVID, we have prioritized experiential learning and extracurricular activities, including vocational training like sewing for girl students,” he said.

Chhattisgarh Government Partners with NSE for Skill Development

In another major educational reform, the Chhattisgarh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) to launch a student skill-building program aimed at enhancing employability in the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) sector.

This initiative will:
Build awareness and competencies in the BFSI sector
Increase job and self-employment opportunities
Align with the Union Budget 2024 and New Education Policy (2020)

According to NSE, the program aims to bridge the skill gap in financial services and empower students with essential industry knowledge.

With these progressive steps in education, Chhattisgarh is setting an example for student welfare and skill development, paving the way for a brighter future for its youth.
