Balrampur (Chhattisgarh) [India], July 4: The Chhattisgarh Government is observing Water Conservation Week from June 30 to July 7 as part of its ‘More Village More Water Campaign’, aiming to raise awareness and promote sustainable water practices. The campaign aligns with the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Jal Shakti Abhiyan, first launched in 2019, which targeted water-stressed districts across India. Since 2021, the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” initiative has become an annual effort, urging citizens to conserve rainwater “where it falls, when it falls.”
This year, on March 22—World Water Day—Jal Shakti Minister C R Paatil launched “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain – 2025” with the theme “Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari – Jan Jagrukta Ki Or”. Running until November 30, the campaign emphasizes community participation, inter-sectoral collaboration, and innovative financing, especially focusing on 148 districts identified as critical by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).
The campaign continues its five key interventions: (i) water conservation and rainwater harvesting; (ii) mapping and inventory of water bodies with scientific conservation plans; (iii) establishing Jal Shakti Kendras; (iv) intensive afforestation; and (v) generating awareness about water conservation.
Highlighting success stories, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised Khandwa district for its outstanding work in water conservation, noting growing awareness about water management across the state.
