Charlize Theron, currently promoting her upcoming Netflix sequel The Old Guard 2, recently expressed her admiration for co-star Uma Thurman, stating that Thurman should have won an Academy Award for her legendary role as The Bride in Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Theron referred to Thurman as her “sensei” in the world of action cinema.
“When I came into the action world, she was really, to me, like the sensei. She was the OG,” Theron said, praising Thurman’s trailblazing performance. When Kimmel suggested Thurman deserved an Oscar for Kill Bill, Theron emphatically agreed: “A hundred per cent… What she did in that film was just so unbelievable.”
Theron also admitted to being nervous about filming action scenes with Thurman in The Old Guard 2, calling her co-star “such a badass” and revealing that she’d always dreamed of doing a fight sequence with her.
Directed by Victoria Mahoney, The Old Guard 2 will premiere on Netflix on July 2, featuring returning cast members Kiandra “KiKi” Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, with Uma Thurman and Henry Golding joining the ensemble.
