Washington DC [US], June 29: Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron has confirmed that she will soon begin filming for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic, The Odyssey. Speaking to Variety, Theron shared that she will head to the set in just a couple of weeks—and admitted feeling nervous about joining the already active ensemble cast.
“I leave in a couple of weeks. I don’t know, I’m just going to talk to Chris (Christopher Nolan) about it and see where it goes. It’s super intimidating. I’ll be the last one to show up—the new kid on the block. Everyone will know what they’re doing, and not me,” said Theron.
The Odyssey is Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s legendary Greek epic that follows Odysseus’ perilous journey home after the Trojan War. With Nolan writing, directing, and producing the film, it is being backed by his production banner Syncopy, alongside producer Emma Thomas.
Matt Damon headlines the cast as Odysseus, joined by a star-studded lineup including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo.
Damon was previously seen on set in Favignana, Italy, in late March, where he filmed scenes shirtless, revealing a transformed physique for the role. Zendaya was also spotted on location that same day in full costume, as she filmed scenes with Damon.
Tom Holland was seen a day later in armor, alongside a Greek-style trireme—giving fans a glimpse into the grand, historically inspired production design of the film.
Theron’s late entry into the production has only heightened fan anticipation, especially given the already massive scale of the project and its A-list cast. With Nolan at the helm and one of the oldest epics in literary history as the source material, The Odyssey promises to be a cinematic spectacle.
