Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India]: The Karnataka Assembly witnessed chaos and uproar on Friday after revelations about an alleged honey trap attempt on Karnataka Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna.
BJP Demands Judicial Inquiry Amid Protest
BJP legislators stormed into the well of the House, shouting slogans of “down, down”, while some waved CDs, claiming they had proof of the honey trap allegations.
Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA R Ashoka called it a “massive conspiracy” targeting elected representatives.
“It is not the issue of one party. It’s the biggest conspiracy against legislators who are working for the people, and some are doing this (honey trap) with a clear hidden agenda,” Ashoka said.
CM Siddaramaiah Defends Government, Rules Out Protection for Accused
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded, denying any attempt to protect the accused, and assured that action would be taken if concrete evidence surfaced.
“It is the government’s responsibility to protect anyone in the case. According to the law, the guilty should be punished. The Home Minister replied that if Rajanna complained, a high-level probe would be conducted. Rajanna did not name anyone, action could be taken if he had named someone. There is no question of protecting anyone in the case,” Siddaramaiah said in the Assembly.
High-Level Probe Announced
Karnataka Minister MC Sudhakar called the honey trap allegations “a serious issue”, stating that powerful individuals were being targeted for extortion.
“It is a serious issue… Whether it is ruling or opposition party members, a lot of people are misusing and are trying to extort huge amounts from respectful people and lure them into all these things. Our Home Minister has said that if there is a written complaint from the cooperation minister who raised this matter, then we will investigate,” Sudhakar said.
On Thursday, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara announced a high-level probe into the alleged honey trap attempt on Rajendra Rajanna, MLC and son of Minister KN Rajanna.
With the political storm escalating, all eyes are on how the Congress government handles the investigation and whether the BJP’s demand for a judicial inquiry will be met.
