Chaos Erupts At Delhi CM Rekha Gupta’s First Event Since Attack; One Detained

A public event attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in Gandhi Nagar turned chaotic earlier today when a man was arrested for creating a disturbance. The man, who has been identified as 60-year-old Praveen Sharma, was apprehended for shouting slogans against BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely. This was Chief Minister Gupta’s first public appearance since she was recently attacked.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam, Praveen Sharma, a cable TV business owner and a long-time BJP worker, was standing behind a security barricade when he began raising slogans. Sharma, who claims to have been associated with the BJP for 40 years, was immediately escorted away by security. The DCP confirmed that the VIP security detail for Chief Minister Gupta, who is under ‘Z’ category protection, was not breached at any point.

The event, an open-market garment exhibition named Vastrika, was organized by the Gandhi Nagar wholesale market. During the event, Chief Minister Gupta announced that she was appointing MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely as the new Chairman of the Yamuna Paar Vikas Board. She praised Lovely for joining the BJP “just for the sake of development” and without “any hidden agendas,” calling him the “chief minister of Gandhi Nagar.”

Gupta also used the opportunity to reassure her supporters, stating, “I assure you that your Chief Minister Didi will not be afraid, will not get tired, will not lose. Till Delhi gets its rights, she will keep fighting with you. It is my vow to continuously fight with you.”

In addition to the appointment, Gupta directed Lovely and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra to prepare a detailed budget proposal for the development of the Gandhi Nagar area. She announced that she was sanctioning the budget immediately, instructing them to simply prepare the file with the budget estimates. The Chief Minister also shared plans to launch a comprehensive route-mapping initiative for all DTC buses, starting in the Trans-Yamuna region.
