A Change.org petition says that a University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) student named Zofia Zambrano vandalized a painting honoring right-wing figure Charlie Kirk. A few days after a video of a student painting over the mural went viral on social media, this petition came out. (HT.com cannot confirm the student’s name on its own; the report is based only on the petition.)
Ashlynn Holyfield began the petition, which says that a group of kids “camped out at the rock with transgender flag paint colors in hopes to paint over Charlie’s mural” less than a day after it was made. It says that a different group of students came together to safeguard the mural.
The petition says, “She pushed through the students and threw paint on the rock, covering many of them in paint and even causing one to fall to the ground.” “She then painted over Charlie’s mural while other students yelled at us, saying we had lost souls.”
The petition asks the university to hold Zambrano responsible for what she is said to have done. “If you think the school should punish Zofia Zambrano for what she did, please sign this petition.” For Charlie, his family, the students, and UNCW, every signature is a step closer to justice. As of this publication, the petition had 1,387 confirmed signatories.
Last week, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while giving a speech at Utah Valley University. After a 33-hour manhunt, police caught 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. He is now facing charges of aggravated murder. The people who are prosecuting the case have said they will ask for the death punishment.
