The Union government has approved a big investment of ₹8,146 crore to build the 700 MW Tato-II hydroelectric project in the Shi Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh. On Tuesday, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave the green light to the investment. The project should be done in 72 months.
The Tato-II project, which has a capacity of 700 MW (4 x 175 MW), is expected to generate 2,738 million units of electricity. The electricity that is made will be a big benefit for Arunachal Pradesh’s power supply and will also help keep the national power system in balance.
The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh will work together to carry out the project. The central government would give ₹458.79 crore to help build infrastructure like roads, bridges, and a transmission line. In addition, the state will get ₹436.13 crore in Central Financial Assistance to pay its portion of the equity.
The project will be very good for the people that live there. The state will get 12% of the power generated for free, plus an extra 1% for a Local Area Development Fund. The project will also make a lot of improvements to the infrastructure, such as building more than 32.88 km of roads and bridges that people in the area can utilize. Additionally, ₹20 crore will be set aside for the project to create important facilities in the district, including as hospitals, schools, markets, and playgrounds. The people who live there will also benefit from job possibilities, pay, and CSR activities.
