Washington [US], May 26: A horror film screening turned into a real-life nightmare for moviegoers in Argentina when part of the ceiling collapsed during a showing of Final Destination: Bloodlines, Deadline reported.
The incident occurred on May 19 during a 9 p.m. screening at Cinema Ocho in La Plata, Buenos Aires. Approximately 40 people were in Theater No. 4 watching the sixth installment of the Final Destination franchise when debris from the roof unexpectedly fell onto the audience.
“A really loud noise was heard… At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were so engrossed; but immediately after, a piece of rubble fell on me,” said 29-year-old Fiamma Villaverde, who was attending the screening with her daughter and a friend.
Videos circulating online show a large hole in the ceiling with debris scattered across the floor, while shocked patrons can be heard reacting to the sudden disruption. The screening was promptly stopped.
Villaverde reportedly suffered bruises and trauma from the falling debris. She confirmed that an X-ray verified her injuries and shared that she has since missed work. “I just lost days off work,” she said, adding that she plans to take legal action.
Local reports suggest recent heavy rainfall may have compromised the theater’s ceiling structure. As of now, Cinema Ocho has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Final Destination: Bloodlines, which premiered on May 16, has been well-received by critics and audiences alike and has seen strong performance at the box office.
