GORAKHPUR, UTTAR PRADESH – A group of young men were caught on camera trying to trick a restaurant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, into not charging them for their meal by secretly putting a meat bone in a plate of vegetable biryani. The event happened at the Biryani Bay restaurant in the Cantonment Police Station neighborhood on the night of July 31, 2025. It has gotten a lot of attention after the restaurant owner published CCTV footage showing the dishonest deed.
An official statement says that the police have stepped in and calmed things down, but the restaurant has not yet filed a formal complaint, which means that official action cannot be taken right away. But officials have said that “legal action is underway.”
The event happens
Eight to ten men went to the Biryani Bay restaurant and ordered both vegetarian and non-vegetarian biryani. One of the men spoke loudly, saying he had found a bone in his vegetable biryani not long after his food was served.
The restaurant staff alerted the police right away, and they came to the scene to calm things down. The cops want to see the restaurant’s CCTV footage to find out what really happened.
The CCTV footage shows the lie.
The video footage of the surveillance clearly showed that the gang was named. The CCTV footage clearly shows one of the men giving a bone to another man, who then quietly puts it on the dish of veggie biryani.
Ravikar Singh, the proprietor of the restaurant, backed up the CCTV footage by saying that the teens put the bone there on purpose. Another video that is also going around shows the men angrily protesting to the restaurant staff about finding bones in their vegetarian food and saying, “Veg mei haddi nikli hai.” “We found bone in a veg dish; there is no cleanliness here,” and they said the restaurant didn’t have “proper hygiene.”
Singh, on the other hand, strongly claimed that there was no risk of “contamination” in his kitchen because he cooks vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals separately. “They clearly didn’t want to pay the bill, which was about ₹5,000–₹6,000,” he informed the police. They did what they did on purpose.
Yogendra Singh, the Cantonment Circle Officer, said that “legal action is underway,” which means that the police are looking into the case based on the facts, even though no formal complaint has been made yet.
This event shows how more and more people are trying to cheat businesses and how important monitoring technology is in finding these kinds of scams. It also comes after other recent events in Uttar Pradesh where people were accused of serving or selling non-vegetarian food during the holy month of Sawan, which often led to demonstrations and legal action.
