CBS Cancels ‘The Equalizer’ After Five Seasons, Queen Latifah’s Run Ends with Season Finale

May 03, 2025: In a surprising move, CBS has officially cancelled the crime drama ‘The Equalizer’ after five seasons, bringing Queen Latifah’s tenure as the justice-seeking Robyn McCall to a close. The announcement follows the release of the network’s 2025–26 programming schedule, where the series was notably absent.

While The Equalizer had remained a steady Sunday performer, a gradual decline in ratings contributed to its downfall, placing it mid-tier among CBS offerings this season. According to Deadline, producers made budget cuts to align with the network’s cost expectations, and Queen Latifah herself reportedly made financial concessions in an effort to keep the show alive.

Despite those efforts, CBS chose to end the series, confirming that the Season 5 finale will now serve as the series finale. The decision is part of a broader wave of cancellations by the network, which is making room for a slate of new scripted shows including Sheriff Country, Boston Blue, CIA, and DMV.

A modern reimagining of the 1980s original, The Equalizer was praised for its strong female lead, socially relevant storytelling, and action-packed drama. Queen Latifah’s portrayal of McCall, a former CIA operative turned vigilante, resonated with audiences and brought a unique energy to primetime television.

Fans are already mourning the show’s exit but celebrating its trailblazing impact and compelling narratives over its five-season run.
