CBI Takes Over Murder Case Of Ex-Punjab DGP’s Son, Family Members Booked

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially registered a case into the alleged murder of Aqil Akhter, the son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa. The agency has initiated an investigation against four members of his immediate family, according to officials familiar with the development.

The CBI has re-registered the First Information Report (FIR) previously filed by the local police following the Haryana government’s order for a CBI probe last month.

Family Members Charged

Those named in the FIR under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) include:

  • Mohammad Mustafa (Former Punjab DGP)
  • Razia Sultana (Mustafa’s wife and three-time former MLA)
  • Their daughter
  • Their daughter-in-law (Aqil Akhter’s wife)

The sections invoked are 103(1) (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS.

Allegations of Conspiracy and Illicit Relations

A CBI spokesperson provided a crucial detail regarding the motive, stating, “There was simmering discontent between the deceased and his family.”

This discontent became public on August 27, when Aqil Akhter posted a video on social media. In the video, he publicly claimed to have discovered illicit relations between his father, Mohammad Mustafa, and his own wife. Furthermore, he alleged that his entire family—including his mother (Razia Sultana) and sister—were conspiring to kill him or implicate him in a false case.

Initial Findings and Dramatic Turn

Aqil Akhter was found unconscious at his residence in Sector 4, Mansa Devi Complex, Panchkula. He was declared dead upon arrival at the Civil Hospital.

Initially, his family attributed his death to a drug overdose, and his body was subsequently released after the post-mortem for cremation at their native village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The case took a significant turn when Shamshudeen Chaudhary, an acquaintance from Malerkotla, lodged a complaint with the police, directly referencing the allegations Aqil had made in his August 27 video.

Mohammad Mustafa has publicly maintained that he and his family are willing to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
