CBI Files Closure Report In Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case, Rhea Chakraborty’s Lawyer Reiterates Her Innocence

Following the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filing a closure report in the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, has reiterated that his client had no involvement in the actor’s demise.

Maneshinde’s Statement on Rhea’s Innocence

Speaking to the media, Maneshinde stated:

  • “I have been saying from the first day that Rhea Chakraborty had nothing to do with Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Still, on 27th July 2020, someone filed a complaint against her and that is why the investigation started. After that, we approached the Supreme Court.”

Investigation Timeline

Maneshinde outlined the sequence of events:

  • June 14, 2020: Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence.
  • The Maharashtra Police treated it as a suicide case and conducted an investigation.
  • The Bandra DCP at the time had cleared Rhea Chakraborty of any involvement after questioning her.

Maneshinde also mentioned that Rhea had left Sushant’s home on June 8, 2020, after disputes over his drug use and medication habits.

  • “After that, Sushant Singh Rajput asked her brother to take her out of his house… From that day, there was no contact between Rhea and Sushant.”

Allegations by Sushant’s Family

Despite Sushant living with 2-3 servants and flatmates, his family implicated Rhea, alleging that she misappropriated ₹15 crore of his property and filed a case in Patna.

  • “Sushant’s family dragged Rhea into this case and filed a case in Patna alleging she misappropriated ₹15 crore. This led to the Supreme Court transferring the investigation to the CBI.”

CBI’s Closure Report

After 4.5 years of investigation, the CBI has now filed a closure report in a Mumbai court, concluding that there was no evidence of foul play and confirming it as a suicide case.

  • “CBI has continuously interrogated Rhea Chakraborty and her family members and filed this report after 4 and a half years but I have been saying from the first day that Rhea Chakraborty had no connection with this… It was a pure case of suicide.”

Postmortem Report Findings

  • Sushant Singh Rajput’s postmortem report, conducted at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai, stated that the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging.

With the CBI officially closing the case, it marks the end of a prolonged and highly publicized investigation that sparked intense debates across the country.
