New Delhi: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound a U/A 16+ rating, but only after 11 changes were made, such as cutting 77 seconds of footage and editing a cricket match scene by 32 seconds. The Dharma Productions movie is set to come out on September 26. It has also been chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars this year.
What Went Wrong
Bollywood Hungama said that the CBFC’s Examining Committee (EC) had a lot of problems with the movie, therefore it had to go to the Revising Committee (RC). After making revisions, the RC approved it, such as:
Six places where words are muted or changed.
Taking out a five-second conversation: “Aloo gobhi…” khaate hai.
Removing a two-second video of a man doing puja.
At the 21-minute point, cut off the word “gyaan” from the discussion.
Cutting 32 seconds of pictures and language from a vital scene in a cricket match.
There were other cuts of 16 seconds, 20 seconds, and a two-second conversation that was muted.
The images of a car that just drove by were also changed to follow CBFC rules.
The final runtime of the movie is now 122 minutes (2 hours and 2 minutes) thanks to these changes.
History
Homebound is about two childhood friends from a small hamlet in North India who want to become police officers to gain respect and honor. As they work toward their goal, their friendship is put to the test by growing desperation and problems with the system.
The Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and now the Oscars have all hailed the film for its gripping tale, great acting, and artistic direction, making it a strong candidate for global recognition.
