Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered three cases against various companies, their directors, and unknown public servants in connection with the alleged ₹9,000 crore Sports City project scam in Noida. The action comes following directives from the Allahabad High Court, the agency stated.
Allegations of Irregularities
The cases pertain to alleged irregularities in the allotment, development, and sanctioning of Sports City projects between 2011 and 2014.
The Noida Sports City Project was envisioned to create world-class sports facilities integrated with residential and commercial zones in Sectors 78, 79, and 150 of Noida. However, after the allotment, several project conditions were reportedly violated by the allottees and sub-lessees, allegedly in collusion with Noida Authority officials.
Massive Financial Loss Alleged
According to the CBI, these violations caused a suspected financial loss of approximately ₹9,000 crore to the state exchequer while granting undue benefits to certain developers at the state’s expense.
Additionally, despite the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report highlighting irregularities, the authorities reportedly failed to take any remedial action.
Searches and Investigation
The CBI conducted searches at multiple locations in Delhi and Noida, leading to the recovery of incriminating documents and digital evidence. The investigation into the alleged scam is currently ongoing, the agency confirmed.
