Carrie Elizabeth Romney, Mitt Romney’s Sister-In-Law, Found Dead In Los Angeles Suburb

Carrie Elizabeth Romney, the 64-year-old sister-in-law of former presidential candidate and Utah Senator Mitt Romney, was found dead on a roadway in Valencia, California, on Friday, October 10. The place where the discovery was made was close to a parking structure for a mall. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office hasn’t yet released the official cause of death since they are waiting for toxicology tests. However, early reports say she may have jumped or fell from the parking structure.

Information about the discovery and investigation

Friday night at about 8:30 p.m. PT, Carrie Elizabeth Romney’s body was located outside a parking garage in the Valencia neighborhood of Los Angeles, on the 24500 block of Town Center Drive. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sent officers to the location, where they confirmed that a woman had died after allegedly jumping or falling from the building.

The parking garage, which is near a Hyatt Regency hotel in the Town Center district, is said to be five stories tall.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office has listed the cause of death as “deferred,” which means that more research, such as toxicology tests, is needed before a formal decision can be reached. It is okay to let her body go.

Identity: Carrie Elizabeth Romney was the sister-in-law of Senator Mitt Romney.

Statement from the Romney Family

A spokesperson for Mitt Romney spoke on behalf of the family, saying how sad they are and asking for privacy during this difficult time.

“Our family is heartbroken over the death of Carrie, who brought love and warmth to all of our lives.” The statement said, “Please respect our privacy during this hard time.”

Mitt Romney’s time in politics

Mitt Romney was Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007 and has been a well-known member of the Republican Party for many years.

He was the U.S. Senator from Utah from 2019 until he officially retired in January 2025. He had said in September 2023 that he would not run for re-election.
