London [UK], July 7: Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz powered into the Wimbledon 2025 quarter-finals with his 22nd consecutive match win, defeating 14th seed Andrey Rublev 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday, according to Olympics.com. The victory marks Alcaraz’s 18th straight win at Wimbledon and keeps his quest for a third consecutive title at SW19 alive.
The two-time defending champion will face Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the quarter-finals. Norrie, the last Briton remaining in the singles draws, advanced after an epic five-set battle against qualifier Nicolas Jarry on No. 1 Court. The pair have a recent history, with Norrie winning their last meeting at the 2023 Rio Open final.
Speaking after the match, Alcaraz admitted the tournament feels different this year. “It is a different kind of tennis this year at Wimbledon… a different feeling. For me, it’s a little bit slower, the balls are a little bit slower. But today I just played my best match so far in the tournament. Just feeling great,” he told Olympics.com.
Earlier in the tournament, Alcaraz extended his win streak to 21 matches by dispatching Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in four sets. He’s now chasing history, aiming to become the first man since Bjorn Borg to win the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back in two consecutive years.
Alcaraz has already captured titles this year at Roland-Garros, Monte Carlo, Rome, and Queen’s Club, with his last loss dating back to April’s Barcelona final.
