Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 29: Rozlyn Khan, a Stage 4 breast cancer survivor, has raised concerns over Hina Khan’s public statements about her cancer journey, accusing the actress of exaggerating her experience for publicity. Rozlyn, who has been outspoken about her own battle with cancer, took issue with Hina’s claim that her surgery, which was initially expected to last 7-8 hours, ended up lasting 15 hours.
In an interview with ANI, Rozlyn shared her thoughts, saying, “I have no personal issue with Hina Khan, but I do have concerns about her statement. I don’t know if it was made to promote something, but as someone who had the same doctor and underwent treatment at the same hospital, I find it surprising.”
Rozlyn pointed out that she was treated by Dr. Mandar Nadkarni at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, the same doctor who performed Hina’s surgery. “I myself underwent Stage 4 cancer treatment there, and the procedure was not as Hina described. If a doctor says a surgery will last a certain amount of time, it is highly unusual for it to be drastically extended,” she said.
Expressing her frustration, Rozlyn emphasized the harmful impact of such exaggerated claims on cancer patients. “Exaggerated statements like these can scare future cancer patients. If someone hears that a surgery scheduled for 3-4 hours took 15 hours, it may cause unnecessary anxiety,” she added. She also criticized those who sensationalize cancer treatments, pointing out that many cancer patients cannot afford the media attention that public figures often receive.
Rozlyn also addressed the stigma surrounding cancer, sharing her personal experience of being mocked for her shaved head during treatment. “Society often views cancer as a curse, and it’s important to normalize this. Instead, Hina’s actions seem to be reinforcing harmful stereotypes,” she explained.
Additionally, Rozlyn expressed her disapproval of Hina participating in the Bigg Boss show during chemotherapy, questioning how a platform like Bigg Boss allowed a cancer patient to appear on national television. She emphasized the importance of supporting cancer patients instead of exploiting their struggles for attention.
“My cancer treatment is incredibly expensive, and I spend a lot of time at the hospital. I’d rather use that money to support fellow patients financially than seek media attention,” Rozlyn said.
Despite her criticisms, Rozlyn clarified that her comments were not a personal attack on Hina Khan. She urged a broader conversation about how public figures contribute to cancer awareness. “I’ve never met Hina, and this is not about her personally. It’s about how we approach cancer – should it be treated as a public sympathy issue, or as a disease to be taken seriously?” she said.
Rozlyn closed her statement by reiterating the responsibility of public figures in raising cancer awareness. “Cancer is a social issue. Using it for publicity is despicable. Some people exploit it for fame, and that’s the lowest anyone can go,” she said.
Earlier this week, Rozlyn shared her thoughts on social media, criticizing what she perceived as Hina’s PR stunts related to her cancer journey. She called for more transparency and genuine efforts to support cancer patients rather than using the disease as a tool for publicity.
Meanwhile, Hina Khan publicly confirmed her diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer, assuring her fans that she is undergoing treatment and staying strong. On social media, she expressed gratitude for the love and support of her fans and requested privacy during her recovery process.
On the work front, Hina Khan is known for her roles in “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai” and “Kasautii Zindagii Kay,” where she gained fame for playing the negative character Komolika.
