Washington DC [US], July 16: After a triumphant return to the screen with Netflix’s hit Back in Action, Cameron Diaz is set to headline another major project — Bad Day, an upcoming action comedy directed by Jake Szymanski, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is being produced by Beau Bauman under his Good One Productions banner, with a story penned by Laura Solon. Bad Day follows the chaotic journey of a single mother attempting to fulfill a small promise to her daughter on what turns out to be the worst day of her life.
Described as a comedic take on Joel Schumacher’s 1993 drama Falling Down, which starred Michael Douglas, the film adds a humorous twist to the theme of reaching one’s breaking point under pressure.
Diaz, one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, had taken a step back from acting in 2014 after starring in hits like Something About Mary, The Holiday, Bad Teacher, and voicing Princess Fiona in the Shrek franchise. She focused on motherhood during her decade-long hiatus.
Her return in Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx marked a major streaming success. The action-comedy, which centers on two ex-CIA agents pulled back into espionage, became the most-watched original streaming film of the year so far, with 5.26 billion minutes viewed.
Speaking about her comeback, Diaz told People, “How do you say ‘No’ to Jamie Foxx? If there’s anyone I’m going to go back and spend months on end on set having a ball and laughing with, it would be Jamie.”
With Bad Day now in the pipeline, Diaz’s post-hiatus career is clearly gaining momentum.
