New Delhi [India], April 6: Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for the “One Nation, One Election” initiative aimed at comprehensive electoral reform, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has announced a nationwide campaign to rally support for the move.
The campaign, set to launch on April 10 in Delhi, will involve trade organizations and civil society groups across all states to initiate national dialogue on the benefits of simultaneous elections. The initiative will highlight its potential to bring political stability, boost economic growth, and improve governance.
CAIT Secretary General and Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk, Praveen Khandelwal, emphasized that PM Modi’s vision would stabilize the country’s political and economic systems while reinforcing the trade ecosystem.
The campaign will unfold in three phases—starting with events in all state capitals, followed by major commercial cities, and eventually reaching district-level centers. A 15-member National Campaign Committee, led by CAIT National President B.C. Bhartia, has been formed to guide the effort.
Bhartia noted that frequent elections disrupt economic momentum, delay policy implementation, and hamper trade activities. A synchronized electoral process would, he said, help streamline governance and foster economic consistency.
CAIT Chairman Brajmohan Agarwal shared that public awareness efforts will involve conferences, seminars, and workshops across various regions. These events will bring together electoral experts, economists, legal analysts, and political leaders to explore the wide-reaching impact of electoral reform.
As part of the outreach, CAIT will also gather suggestions and endorsements from traders nationwide, highlighting how this reform could support India’s trade and development goals.
Praveen Khandelwal stated, “One Nation, One Election will strengthen India’s democracy, accelerate developmental work, and provide much-needed consistency for the business community. Frequent elections strain government resources and stall administration. Through this campaign, we aim to bring citizens, civil society, and policymakers together to build a consensus.”
CAIT’s campaign is poised to generate a large-scale discussion on the proposed electoral overhaul, showcasing support from the country’s business sector while aiming to enhance India’s global standing through political and economic stability.
