The Gurugram Police have arrested a cab driver, identified as Pankaj Singh (22), following a traumatic encounter involving a female passenger on the evening of December 15, 2025. The case gained massive traction on social media after the victim posted a video recounting her ordeal, which she filmed shortly after being forced out of the vehicle.
The Incident: From Music Dispute to Threat
The victim, who boarded the cab around 6:00 PM from her workplace, detailed a sequence of events that escalated rapidly:
- The Request: The passenger asked the driver to lower the music volume as she was on a phone call. Despite making the request three times, the driver allegedly refused.
- The Escalation: The driver reportedly turned aggressive, asking, “Is this your father’s car?” and began using abusive and insulting language.
- The Deviation: When the woman insisted on reaching her destination, the driver allegedly accelerated and began driving in a different direction, stating, “Now I’ll show you.”
- The Abandonment: Fearing for her safety, the woman managed to get out of the car. The driver reportedly stopped on an unfamiliar, deserted road and continued to watch her in a “threatening manner” as she dialed the 112 helpline.
Police Response and Legal Charges
While the video went viral on Sunday (Dec 21), the Gurugram Police issued a clarification stating that the arrest was made on the same night of the incident (Dec 15).
The Sector-50 Police Station registered FIR No. 359 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The specific sections invoked are:
| Section | Offence under BNS | Implication |
| Section 77 | Voyeurism | Capturing/watching or acting against a woman’s privacy. |
| Section 79 | Insult to Modesty | Uttering words or making gestures intended to insult a woman’s modesty. |
Current Status: Pankaj Singh, a resident of Bahni Maharajpur in Rohtak, has been produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody. The vehicle involved has also been seized.
Allegations of Police Hesitation
In her video, the victim also alleged that officers at the police station initially tried to dissuade her from filing a formal FIR, suggesting instead that they would simply “beat him up” and keep him in jail for a night. However, the woman remained firm, later filing a complaint in the district court to ensure the driver faced legal consequences.
