New Delhi [India], January 28: President Droupadi Murmu is set to address both Houses of Parliament on January 31, 2025, at 11 am in the Lok Sabha Chamber, marking the commencement of the Budget Session.
As per the Parliamentary Bulletin, the Budget Session will be held in two phases. The first phase will begin on January 31, with the Union Budget being presented on February 1, and will conclude on February 13. The second phase will commence on March 10 and conclude on April 4.
The bulletin further indicated that three days—February 3, 4, and 6—have been provisionally allocated for the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, with the reply scheduled for February 6.
Ahead of the Union Budget presentation, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced an all-party meeting scheduled for January 30 to ensure smooth proceedings in Parliament. Rijiju expressed his hope for cooperation from opposition leaders during the session.
Commenting on the upcoming Budget session, Rijiju told ANI, “The Budget session will start on January 31, and on January 30, we have called an all-party meeting. We are hopeful that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present a well-balanced and beneficial Budget.”
Rijiju also urged the opposition to allow smooth discussions in Parliament, referencing previous disruptions during past sessions. “In the last two sessions, there were some disturbances that negatively impacted the image of Parliament. I appeal to opposition leaders and all MPs to participate in discussions and ensure the session runs smoothly,” he added.
