On the sacred occasion of Buddha Purnima, Indian leaders paid homage to Lord Buddha’s timeless teachings, urging people to imbibe his message of peace, compassion, and non-violence for a better world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings via X, stating that Lord Buddha’s life, rooted in sacrifice and penance, would forever guide the global community.
“Best wishes to all countrymen on Buddha Purnima. Lord Buddha’s messages, based on the principles of truth, equality and harmony, have been a guide for humanity… will always inspire the world community towards compassion and peace,” PM Modi wrote.
President Murmu Calls for a Peaceful and Developed Bharat
President Droupadi Murmu echoed similar sentiments, underlining Buddha’s ideals as the foundation for social justice and moral living.
“The immortal message of non-violence, love and kindness… is the basic mantra for the welfare of mankind,” she said, calling on citizens to adopt the teachings of Lord Buddha in everyday life to help build a peaceful, harmonious and developed Bharat.
Union Ministers Join in Reverence
Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized Lord Buddha’s message of equality, unity, and non-violence.
“The life of Lord Buddha is the confluence of thoughts, words and deeds,” Shah posted, praying for happiness and peace for all.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also offered tributes, hailing Buddha as a symbol of peace, wisdom and compassion.
“His timeless teachings continue to guide humanity towards harmony, self-realisation and the path of righteousness,” Singh wrote.
Significance of Buddha Purnima
Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak, commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana (death) of Gautama Buddha. Celebrated across the globe, especially in Buddhist communities, it serves as a day of reflection on Buddha’s profound teachings and their enduring relevance in today’s world.
