16 BSF Personnel Awarded Gallantry Medals For Operation Sindoor Against Pakistan

The Union government has given gallantry medals to sixteen members of the Border Security Force (BSF) for their “conspicuous bravery” and “unmatched valour” during Operation Sindoor, which was an attack against Pakistan. The medals were announced the day before the 79th Independence Day.

The Border Security Force (BSF), which is in charge of protecting the 2,290-kilometer-long India-Pakistan International Border, made the announcement on social media. They said, “The medals are a testament to the Nation’s faith & trust reposed in India’s First Line of Defence: The Border Security Force.”

From May 7 to 10, the three defense forces and the BSF worked together on Operation Sindoor, which targeted military and terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It was started as a response to the Pahalgam terror assault on April 22 that murdered 26 people. Two BSF members died and seven were injured during the operation.

Tales of Bravery:

Sub-Inspector Vyas Dev and Constable Suddi Rabha were given awards for going on a “risk-prone” expedition to bring more ammunition to troops on the front lines. Even after a Pakistani mortar bomb hit his station and killed him, Vyas Dev, who lost his left leg, “remained conscious, stabilized himself, and bravely carried out his duty.” Rabha remained “shoulder to shoulder” with his captain even though he was hurt.

Unit of Assistant Commandant Abhishek Srivastav: Head Constable Brij Mohan Singh and Constables Depeswar Barman, Bhupendra Bajpai, Rajan Kumar, and Basavaraja Shivappa Sunkada were part of a team that fought off a swarm of Pakistani drones at a very sensitive border station. They were able to stop the drones, but one of them landed a mortar round, killing Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham. They are anticipated to earn military honors once they die.

Ravindra Rathore’s Unit: Rathore, along with Inspector Devi Lal, Head Constable Sahib Singh, and Constable Kanwaraj Singh, showed “exceptional courage” and “operational brilliance” by saving the life of a fellow jawan under a lot of stress.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Udai Vir Singh: Despite being shot in the upper lip with shrapnel that could have killed him, he destroyed a Pakistani surveillance camera and a “heavy machine gun nest” at the Jabowal border station while “intense” enemy fire was going on.

ASI Rajappa BT and Constable Manohar Xalxo were on a “high risk” expedition to get more ammo for an automatic grenade launcher at the Karotana Khurd station. A mortar shell hit the magazine and hurt them badly, but they made sure to finish their job.

Assistant Commandant Alok Negi: Negi and two of his troops fired “relentless and accurate” mortars at enemy positions for 48 hours, a “fearless” act that caused no casualties and kept the operation in control.

The government also gave gallantry medals to other police and central armed police forces troops. The Jammu and Kashmir Police (128), the CRPF (20), and the Chhattisgarh Police (14) all received accolades for their work.
