BSF Pays Tribute to Sub Inspector Md Imteyaz, Killed in Cross-Border Firing by Pakistan

BSF salutes fallen officer as India slams Pakistan for violating ceasefire pact; Armed forces maintain strong vigil amid escalating tensions.

New Delhi [India], May 11:
The Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday paid solemn tribute to Sub Inspector Md Imteyaz, who lost his life on May 10 during unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistan along the International Boundary in RS Pura, Jammu.

In an official statement, the BSF said,

“DG BSF and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF Sub Inspector Md Imteyaz in service to the Nation. The Prahari Pariwar stands firm with the bereaved family in this trying time.”

The BSF also announced that a wreath-laying ceremony with full military honours will be conducted on Sunday at Frontier Headquarters, Jammu (Paloura) to honour the fallen hero.

Sub Inspector Imteyaz’s death comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following repeated ceasefire violations despite an agreement reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries earlier on the same day.

In a special press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned Pakistan’s breach of the ceasefire pact, calling it a “very serious violation” and reaffirming that India’s armed forces were responding firmly to ongoing hostilities.

“For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations,” Misri said.
“We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility.”

Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan’s DGMO had contacted his Indian counterpart at 15:35 IST, and both sides had agreed to cease all military actions across land, air, and sea effective 1700 IST. However, the firing that resulted in SI Imteyaz’s death occurred after this agreement, highlighting the fragile nature of the understanding.

Misri further stated that the DGMOs from both sides would reconvene on May 12 at 1200 IST to assess the situation and reinforce the ceasefire commitment.

Echoing the government’s sentiment, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar posted on X,

“India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”

As India mourns the loss of one of its brave sons, the incident underscores the urgent need for accountability and genuine adherence to peace commitments along the volatile border zones. The nation stands united in saluting the courage and dedication of Sub Inspector Md Imteyaz, who laid down his life defending the country’s sovereignty.
