Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], March 13: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders staged a protest in front of the 125-foot Ambedkar Statue at Tankbund, Hyderabad, on Thursday, following the suspension of BRS MLA Jagadish Reddy from the Telangana Assembly. The protest was led by BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR), who strongly criticized the move.
KTR described the suspension as a “blot on democracy,” calling it a “black day for democracy in India.” He also pointed out the inconsistency in the actions of Congress, saying, “Rahul Gandhi preaches Constitution day in and day out, but today he has forgotten to teach his Congress Government and ministers the same values.” KTR criticized the unilateral decision to suspend Reddy despite no derogatory statements being made by the MLA, and demanded answers from the government regarding the non-fulfillment of promises.
The protest turned tense as BRS leaders were detained by the police. Jagadish Reddy, the suspended MLA, accused the Speaker of bias, which led to an uproar in the Assembly. Following the suspension, all BRS MLAs walked out of the session in protest.
Earlier, on Wednesday, KTR sharply criticized the 15-month tenure of the Revanth Reddy-led government in Telangana, labeling it a “failure” and accusing it of misleading the public. He questioned the government’s impact on the residents of Telangana, saying, “Show me a single person in the whole of Telangana who is happy in the 15 months of Revanth Reddy government rule.” KTR also expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s claims of improving conditions for government employees, highlighting the discontent among them despite a 73 percent salary increase.
KTR further pointed to the agrarian crisis in the state, mentioning that more than 480 farmers had committed suicide, and criticized the government for its failure to address the growing despair in the agricultural sector. He also accused the government of engaging in corruption, quoting Congress members who allegedly said that no land deal happens without paying a 30 percent commission. KTR concluded by stating, “This government has no vision; it only focuses on commission,” condemning the administration’s lack of forward-thinking policies and governance.
