BRS MLC K Kavitha has criticized the Congress government in Telangana for failing to provide adequate Muslim representation in the state cabinet, urging the government to “live up to the promises made to the Muslim community.”
Kavitha claimed that the Muslim community in Telangana remains politically and financially disempowered, citing the absence of a Muslim representative in the cabinet. She emphasized that no Muslim leader has been appointed as a minister or MLC in the 15 months since Congress assumed power.
After attending an Iftar party in Nizamabad, Kavitha highlighted the disconnect between the Congress government and the Muslim community. “Today, we are in Nizamabad celebrating Ramadan with all our Muslim friends and party leaders. Everybody in Telangana knows and understands how much BRS is soulfully attached to the Muslim community of Telangana. At the same time, the Congress party has not even given a single MLC nor any ministry to a Muslim person here in the last 15 months,” Kavitha told ANI.
She pointed out that under the previous BRS government, a Muslim MLC had been promoted to the position of Deputy Chief Minister, a historic move that the Congress government has failed to replicate. “This is the first time in the 75 years of independence in our state that a Muslim does not have a place in the cabinet, whereas the BRS government directly made a Muslim an MLC and then a Deputy Chief Minister for the first time in history. However, this government has no such sentiments or understanding of things,” she said.
Kavitha called on the Congress government to take action and fulfill the promises made to the Muslim community. “So today, Muslims in Telangana are not happy. Neither are they empowered politically nor financially, and they’re suffering. We want the Congress government to walk the talk and live up to the promises made to the Muslim community…” she added.
