Washington [US], December 4 : Pop icon Britney Spears shared a personal update on her 43rd birthday, revealing that she decided to move to Mexico to escape the constant presence of paparazzi.
In an Instagram video, she expressed her frustration with the media’s portrayal of her, saying, “It really kind of hurts my feelings… the paparazzi make my face look like I’m wearing, like a white Jason mask. It doesn’t even look like me.” Spears noted that the paparazzi have always been “incredibly cruel” to her, and although she acknowledges her own imperfections, she criticized their treatment as “extremely mean and cruel.” “And that’s why I’ve moved to Mexico,” she added.
On a significant legal note, Britney entered her 43rd year with a major milestone—she was officially declared legally single on December 2, 2024, officially ending her marriage to Sam Asghari. The legal recognition of her single status followed seven months after the couple reached a divorce settlement in May, finalizing the end of their three-year marriage. Legal documents confirmed the dissolution of their marriage on December 2.
Although the divorce had been settled earlier, the official declaration on her birthday marked the closure of their marriage. The split was described as uncontested, with both Britney and Sam agreeing on the division of property, marital rights, and any support obligations. The divorce came after Sam, 30, filed in August 2023, following just over a year of marriage. At the time, Sam publicly expressed his hope for the media and public to treat the matter with respect, stating, “We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other, and I wish her the best always.”
Britney, who shares two children—Sean, 19, and Jayden, 18—with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, shared her feelings about the split shortly after Sam’s filing. On Instagram, she explained, “As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together. 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because it’s honestly nobody’s business!!! But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly!!!”
Despite the emotional pain, Britney remained strong, stating, “I will be as strong as I can and do my best!!! And I’m actually doing pretty damn good!!!” The couple, who began dating in 2016, parted ways amicably, with Britney referring to Sam as a “gift from God” in her memoir The Woman in Me, a sentiment that appeared to bring a smile to him.
As for Sam, who has transitioned from a fitness career to acting, he discussed his new phase of life, emphasizing the importance of staying positive and grounded. Reflecting on the changes, he noted, “It’s the bed that you make yourself, and you got to learn how to lay in it, so it’s part of the lifestyle.” He added, “You just got to keep it positive,” and urged others to “stay grounded and understand what the truth is.”
