Jodhpur (Rajasthan) [India], December 8 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the significant strides in border security policies under the Modi government during his address at the 60th Raising Day parade of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday. Shah emphasized that the border security framework, which had been unclear for years, has been substantially strengthened under the current administration.
He noted that robust infrastructure has been established in border areas, including modern fencing systems, to enhance national security during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure. Shah further acknowledged the pivotal role of BSF personnel, stating that whenever any incident is reported from the border, the nation feels reassured knowing the BSF is there to handle it.
“BSF is the first line of defense. Whenever a challenge arises on the border, and we know a BSF soldier is involved, we are confident and worry-free,” he said.
Shah also highlighted the growth of the BSF, which began with 25 battalions and has now expanded to 193, making it the largest border guarding force in the world. He pointed out that, under the Modi government, border security has been significantly enhanced through a clear strategy and modern infrastructure.
A major achievement, according to Shah, is the launch of the vibrant villages program along the borders. He noted that with an allocated budget of Rs 4,800 crore, villages near northern borders have been transformed, with improvements in road connectivity and healthcare services, especially in areas facing migration challenges.
“The government will continue to focus on these areas,” Shah said.
The Home Minister also mentioned advancements in the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS), which is being implemented across the India-Pakistan and Indo-Bangladesh borders. While acknowledging the need for further improvements, he expressed confidence in the program’s future success.
On the growing concern of drones, Shah warned that the issue will intensify in the coming years. However, he assured that significant steps are being taken to counter this threat, including the development of anti-drone systems by DRDO and other agencies. Shah highlighted that the interception rate of drones on the Punjab border has risen from just 3% to 55% in recent years, with plans to neutralize drone threats entirely in the near future.
Shah concluded by lauding the BSF for its unwavering commitment to national security, stating, “While the entire nation sleeps peacefully, BSF stands firm as the first line of defense.” He reaffirmed India’s invincibility, adding, “No one can defeat India. The credit goes to the soldiers who protect not just the borders, but 1.4 billion Indians.”
