‘Border 2’ Mania Grips India: Fans Hit Theatres in Tractors and Jeeps with Patriotic Fervor

The long-awaited sequel to India’s most iconic war film, Border 2, has ignited a wave of nationalistic passion across the country since its release on Friday, January 23, 2026. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is witnessing a theatrical reception rarely seen in modern cinema, with fans turning their visits to the cinema into grand patriotic rallies.

Tractors, Jeeps, and Tricolours Viral videos from across North India, particularly Najibabad in Uttar Pradesh, show youngsters arriving at cinema halls in convoys of tractors and open jeeps. Many vehicles were seen decorated with the Indian tricolour and massive posters of Sunny Deol. In several packed theatres, the atmosphere resembled a stadium, with audiences standing up to chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” during high-octane battle sequences.

Box Office Explosion The nostalgia and “Deshbhakti” (patriotism) have translated into massive numbers. Border 2 reportedly earned a staggering ₹30.1 crore on its opening day in India, marking the second-biggest opening for a Republic Day week release, trailing only 2023’s Pathaan. It has also become the career-best opener for co-stars Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh.

About the Film A standalone sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 classic, Border 2 expands the narrative to include a multi-front war involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force during the 1971 conflict.

  • Sunny Deol returns as the anchor of the franchise, playing Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler.
  • Varun Dhawan portrays Major Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya.
  • Diljit Dosanjh takes on the role of the legendary Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon.
  • Ahan Shetty rounds out the lead cast as Lt Cdr M.S. Rawat.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Nidhi Dutta, the film’s blend of modern VFX and the iconic “Ghar Kab Aaoge” legacy has successfully bridged the gap between the original fans and a new generation of moviegoers.
