New Delhi [India], June 20: Celebrated Bollywood actor Boman Irani, known for iconic roles in Munna Bhai MBBS, 3 Idiots, and Khosla Ka Ghosla, has opened up about his personal journey with dyslexia, encouraging people to embrace their individuality and focus on their unique strengths.
Irani spoke about the importance of recognizing that everyone is different, referencing how each person’s DNA, brain function, and abilities set them apart. “No human being’s DNA is identical,” he said. “Use your ability or your disability to your advantage.”
Reflecting on his struggles with subjects like mathematics during school, Irani emphasized that such challenges do not define a person. “I could not understand mathematics. That does not define me. What defines me is my ability to communicate, to tell stories, to use my body and voice.”
He also highlighted the power of memory in shaping his career. “I have no memory for numbers—zero—but I remember film scenes from when I was 11 years old. That’s the kind of memory I have. We shouldn’t let societal norms decide our worth. Judge yourself by your personal competence,” he shared.
Speaking about his acting journey, Irani recalled how his role as Kishen Khurana in Dibakar Banerjee’s Khosla Ka Ghosla in 2006 was particularly significant. Initially, the makers were unsure if a South Bombay Parsi could convincingly play a Punjabi businessman. But Irani turned that skepticism into motivation.
“People thought I wouldn’t be able to do it. That’s when I took it as a challenge. I worked harder to make the character believable. It became a very special role for me,” he said.
Boman Irani is now set to appear in his latest project Detective Sherdil, streaming exclusively on Zee5 from today. The film also stars Diljit Dosanjh, Diana Penty, Ratna Pathak, and Sumit Vyas.
