Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India]: One of the victims killed in the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir has been identified as Dinesh Miraniya, a resident of Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai confirmed on Wednesday. The post-mortem of the victim has been completed and preparations are underway to repatriate the body to Chhattisgarh.
Speaking to media, Raipur Collector Gaurav Singh stated that formalities with the Jammu and Kashmir administration have been completed and that the victim’s body will first be transported to New Delhi, before being flown back to Raipur. He also confirmed efforts are being made to ensure that the victim’s family travels back on the same flight.
“We are in contact with the administration there and the family too. The post-mortem and other formalities have been completed. In some time, the bodies will be coming to Delhi, and after that, the body will come here (Chhattisgarh),” Singh told ANI.
Security concerns in the Pahalgam region are being closely monitored, and the final travel arrangements will depend on updates from local authorities.
“When we get the updated schedule, we will have a clear picture. As per current plans, the family will travel on the same flight, but it will be confirmed after assessing the security situation,” Singh added.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has directed state officials to provide all possible support to the bereaved family, ensuring their travel and coordination is managed smoothly.
Meanwhile, coffins carrying the victims of the Pahalgam attack have reached Srinagar Airport, where state government representatives from various states are facilitating the return of affected tourists and deceased individuals.
The terror attack, one of the most serious incidents since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, has triggered widespread outrage and grief across India. Security has been heightened in the region, with visuals showing deserted streets in areas typically crowded with tourists. Search operations to apprehend those responsible are ongoing.
Several organisations and political groups have called for a Jammu Bandh, and candlelight vigils and protests have been held across various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, expressing solidarity with the victims and their families.
