Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 22: Bobby Deol’s upcoming film ‘Bandar’ (Monkey in a Cage) has been officially selected for the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), marking a major milestone in the actor’s career. The film, inspired by true events and directed by Anurag Kashyap, will premiere at TIFF 2025, which runs from September 4 to September 14.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Bobby Deol wrote, “The story that should not have been told… But is the Official Selection at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025. Our film inspired by true events is premiering at #TIFF50 #bNdr #Bandar #MonkeyinaCage.”

The announcement drew congratulatory messages from across the film fraternity, with Sunny Deol reacting with heart emojis, Vikrant Massey commenting “Many congratulations, Sir,” and Huma Qureshi also extending her congratulations.

Deol was last seen in ‘Ek Badnaam Aashram Season 3 – Part 2’ on Amazon MX Player and recently made his Telugu debut in ‘Daaku Maharaj’ alongside Nandamuri Balakrishna, Urvashi Rautela, and Pragya Jaiswal, directed by Bobby Kolli.

Adding further Indian presence at TIFF 2025 is Karan Johar’s production ‘Homebound’, which has also been selected in the Gala Presentations category. The film stars Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa, and has already garnered international acclaim after receiving a 9-minute standing ovation at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

‘Homebound’, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, tells the story of two childhood friends from a small North Indian village striving for a police job that offers long-awaited dignity. As their dream nears, tensions and desperation test their friendship.

Ghaywan described the project as “a deeply personal story about friendship, dignity, and survival,” and emphasized its focus on “people who are often unseen, and the quiet strength they carry in a world that rarely pauses for them.”

The film also boasts legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese as an executive producer, further elevating its international profile.
