BJP leader says Pakistan’s threats are meaningless, accuses Islamabad of habitual treaty violations and warns of firm action.
Kolkata (West Bengal), April 27:
As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh slammed Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, dismissing his provocative “either water or blood will flow” remark as empty rhetoric.
“Blood is already flowing in Pakistan. Al-Qaeda is beating them from one side and Afghanistan from the other. We have already shown them what we can do. Bilawal Bhutto is still a child, like he was earlier. It is Pakistan’s old habit to make such futile statements,” Ghosh told reporters on Sunday.
His sharp response came after Bhutto threatened India over its suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a landmark 1960 agreement that governs water-sharing between the two countries.
Ghosh also responded to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent call for a “neutral investigation” into the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, mostly Indian tourists. He accused Pakistan of consistently violating agreements since 1947, adding that the time for dialogue had long passed.
“They want to sit and talk, but the world does not want to sit with them. Why waste time? Who violated the Shimla Agreement? Which agreement has Pakistan respected since 1947? It’s too late now. It is time for action. They should be ready to get beaten up,” Ghosh asserted.
The Pahalgam attack has triggered widespread outrage across India and heightened diplomatic tensions. India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty is seen as part of a broader strategy to pressure Pakistan over its continued support for terrorism.
Signed in 1960 with World Bank assistance, the Indus Waters Treaty has survived multiple wars and hostilities, but experts now say its future remains uncertain amid the deepening India-Pakistan rift.
