Blinkit, Zepto and Others End 10-Minute Delivery Claims Following Worker Safety Concerns

Quick commerce platforms, including Blinkit and Zepto, have decided to halt claims of 10-minute deliveries after Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya raised concerns over pressure and stressful working conditions for gig workers.

A meeting was held between government representatives and leading delivery platforms, including Zomato and Swiggy, to address issues related to delivery timelines and worker safety. Following this, Blinkit has already updated its branding, removing the 10-minute delivery promise. Its tagline now reads: “30,000 plus products delivered at your doorstep”, replacing the earlier claim of “10,000 plus products delivered in 10 minutes.”

The move comes after gig worker strikes and public demands for improved pay and working conditions, including a major strike on December 31. Deepinder Goyal, Zomato co-founder and owner of Blinkit, previously defended the 10-minute delivery model, noting drivers travel short distances at safe speeds and are provided insurance coverage.

The change aims to ensure better safety, security, and working conditions for delivery personnel. Other platforms are expected to follow suit in the coming days.
