Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal accuses Nishikant Dubey of attacking the judiciary and violating the Constitution; opposition leaders urge Speaker and Supreme Court to take action over controversial statement.
New Delhi, April 20:
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Sunday strongly condemned BJP MP Nishikant Dubey over his “controversial remarks against the Supreme Court,” calling it a “clear case of contempt of court” and a violation of the Constitution.
Venugopal said Dubey’s statement amounted to a direct and dangerous attack on the judiciary, specifically targeting the Chief Justice of India (CJI). He demanded immediate action from both the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Supreme Court.
“This cannot be taken lightly. A Member of Parliament has made serious allegations against the Chief Justice of India. It is a blatant violation of the Constitution and judicial independence,” Venugopal told ANI.

He further accused the BJP of trying to undermine and intimidate judicial institutions, saying that such remarks, coming from ruling party leaders, signal a dangerous erosion of constitutional decorum.
“The Speaker and the Court must act. This is not an isolated comment—it reflects a broader strategy to threaten the judiciary,” he added.
🗣️ Opposition Joins Chorus of Condemnation
JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey also denounced Dubey’s remarks, calling it a sign of growing authoritarianism.
“The dictatorship in the nation has reached such a level that now even MPs are openly challenging the courts. Do they think they are more knowledgeable than the judges?” Pandey asked, urging judicial action against Dubey.
⚖️ Owaisi: “Do You Even Know What Article 142 Is?”
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi took sharp aim at Dubey, invoking Article 142 of the Constitution, which empowers the Supreme Court to ensure complete justice.
“You people (BJP) are tubelights… threatening the courts like this! Do you even know what Article 142 is? It was framed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,” Owaisi said, criticizing what he described as radicalized rhetoric from BJP leaders.
