A blast was reported early Tuesday morning outside the residence of senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Punjab’s Jalandhar, prompting a swift police and forensic response. Authorities are currently investigating the nature of the explosion and whether it may have been a grenade attack.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur briefed the media on the situation, saying:
“Around 1 am, we got information of blast here, after which we reached the spot and started the investigation. The forensic team is investigating the matter…We are also monitoring the CCTV… The forensic team is investigating whether it is a grenade attack or something else…”
BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia shared that he initially mistook the blast for a thunderclap while he was asleep.
“There was a blast at around 1 am…I was sleeping, and I thought that it was the sound of thunder…Later, I was informed that a blast had taken place…after this, I sent my gunman to the police station…CCTV is being investigated; forensic experts are also present here…” he told media.
Manpreet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident and emphasized that the forensic team is examining the scene.
“The forensic team will inspect and give the report. The incident took place at the residence of Manoranjan Kalia,” he said.
Security in the area has been heightened as investigations continue. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify suspects and determine the exact cause of the explosion. More details are awaited as the forensic report is yet to be released.
