New Delhi [India], January 9: BJP Delhi General Secretary Vishnu Mittal launched a sharp critique of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of focusing on constructing a “sheeshmahal” (a lavish residence) while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to improving the lives of the underprivileged.
“Arvind Kejriwal is busy building his ‘sheeshmahal,’ while PM Modi is focused on providing homes for the poor,” Mittal said, pointing out Kejriwal’s failure to meet his promises to the people of Delhi. He added, “Kejriwal is on the back foot now. The people of Delhi have already decided to form a BJP government.”
Mittal’s comments come in the lead-up to the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. He shared details of the ongoing Election Management Committee (EMC) meeting, which he stated would last around four hours and involve 42 departments. “Our national president, JP Nadda, will meet with all the departments,” he added. Mittal also confirmed that the BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) will meet on January 10, with the candidate list expected to be announced by January 11.
In response to Mittal’s criticism, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar accused the BJP of spreading “false and baseless” allegations about the Chief Minister’s residence. “The BJP has been circulating misinformation about Kejriwal’s residence. Why are they so rattled when we offered to show what’s inside the CM’s residence, as well as the ‘Rajmahal’ PM Modi is constructing?” she asked.
Kakkar’s remarks come after the BJP’s claims about extravagant features like a mini bar, swimming pool, and golden seats at Kejriwal’s residence. “The BJP has been spreading lies about a mini bar, swimming pool, and golden seats. We have now requested that both the CM’s and PM’s houses be opened to the public for inspection,” she said. She also raised concerns about the transparency of the renovation of PM Modi’s residence, which has been criticized for its high cost.
Kakkar further questioned why the public hadn’t been allowed to view the renovated premises, noting that taxpayer money had funded the project. “Let the taxpayers see what a 300 crore carpet looks like, what a 200 crore chandelier looks like, and what diamond-studded toilet seats look like,” Kakkar demanded, referencing reports of lavish features in the PM’s new residence.
