Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 12: BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar has come down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government following violent unrest in Jalangi, Murshidabad, where a mob reportedly set ablaze a Block Development Office (BDO) and torched police vehicles.
In a strongly worded post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Majumdar blamed the incident on the Trinamool Congress’ alleged “minority appeasement” and vote-bank politics.
“In Mamata Banerjee’s Bengal, the so-called ‘messengers of peace’ — nurtured under the banner of minority appeasement — have unleashed utter chaos. In Jalangi, Murshidabad, their fury forced the @WBPolice to retreat, vehicles were torched, and in moments, a full BDO office was reduced to rubble,” he posted.

Majumdar further alleged that government officers who once worked in line with political interests now face the wrath of a lawless environment. “Those very BDO officers, who once acted as party cadres during and after elections, now stand stunned—facing the terrifying reality of the lawlessness they were once a part of normalizing,” he added.
The BJP MP also described the incident as a “collapse of governance,” claiming the Trinamool Congress (TMC) continues to shelter such unrest under the guise of secularism. “This is not just administrative failure—this is what happens when governance is sacrificed at the altar of vote-bank politics. Offices are unsafe. Life itself is at risk,” he said.
He concluded his post by calling the violence in Murshidabad the “legacy of failed CM Mamata Banerjee’s brand of politics.”
The violence erupted amid protests over the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, which has drawn widespread opposition across West Bengal. While officials report that the situation in parts of Jangipur is now under control, tensions continue to simmer in several areas of Murshidabad.
According to police sources, multiple vehicles were torched and public property was damaged during the demonstrations. Authorities have heightened security and launched raids to identify those responsible for the violence.
