“They Were Really An AAPda For Delhi…”: BJP’s Rekha Gupta Slams AAP After Election Results

Following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) remarkable victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, Rekha Gupta, the winning candidate from Shalimar Bagh, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) nearly decade-long governance in the national capital, calling it an “AAPda” (disaster) for Delhi.

She further attacked AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, labeling them as “self-centered.”

Highlighting the BJP’s vision for Delhi, Gupta assured that significant developmental projects will be undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to media, Gupta stated, “We can only expect development in Delhi from PM Modi. This victory goes to the leadership of PM Modi. People of Delhi are hopeful that PM Modi will do development here.”

“The truth was revealed to the public that they (Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia) are self-centered. Nothing was done by them in the interest of the public. They were really an AAPda (disaster) for Delhi and people understood this,” she added.

Rekha Gupta secured her win over AAP’s Bandana Kumari from Shalimar Bagh with a margin of 29,595 votes.

When asked about Congress’ performance in the elections, Gupta remarked that the party’s presence has “ended” in the country.

“The existence of Congress has ended in the country. They should reflect on what they should do,” she said.

She also took a dig at the INDIA bloc, branding them as “harmful” to the country and accusing them of prioritizing their own interests over national welfare.

“It is harmful for the country as well. People have understood this thing and they have been exposed. The INDIA alliance has been exposed. They neither care about the country nor Delhi. They are only worried about themselves,” the BJP leader asserted.

BJP secured 48 seats in a historic mandate, returning to power in the national capital after 27 years. AAP won 22 seats, while the Congress failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive time.

Despite the overall loss for AAP, Atishi managed to retain the Kalkaji constituency, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes. However, several key AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and ex-Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, faced defeat.

Following AAP’s loss, Atishi resigned as Delhi’s Chief Minister earlier in the day. Subsequently, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena dissolved the Seventh Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, paving the way for a new BJP-led government in the national capital.
