New Delhi [India], December 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Vice Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Kuljeet Singh Chahal, criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement of the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana’, which promises Rs 2,100 per month to women in Delhi, calling it a diversionary tactic.
Chahal questioned the credibility of the scheme, pointing out that similar promises made by AAP during the Punjab elections had not been fulfilled. “He made the same promise in Punjab. Has the Rs 2,100 been credited to women’s accounts there? They will collect forms, but nothing will materialize. They must clarify if anyone will receive any money before the elections,” Chahal remarked.
He further accused Kejriwal of using the scheme to deflect attention from ongoing corruption allegations, such as the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ controversy and the liquor scam. “Kejriwal knows he is likely to lose the upcoming assembly elections. This is an attempt to divert attention from his own wrongdoings,” Chahal added.
Earlier, Kejriwal announced the commencement of registrations for the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ and the ‘Sanjeevani Yojana’, which will begin tomorrow across Delhi. The ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’ aims to provide Rs 2,100 per month to women in Delhi.
During a press conference, Kejriwal assured that women would not need to queue up for registration, as teams would visit them directly to assist with the process and provide cards. He also mentioned that the registration for the ‘Sanjeevani Yojana’, which covers medical expenses for senior citizens over 60 years of age, would begin tomorrow.
Kejriwal highlighted that the two schemes could benefit up to 35 to 40 lakh women and around 15 lakh senior citizens. “Our team will go door-to-door for registration. A Delhi voter ID card is required for registration, and people can check the status of their voter ID on the website,” he added.
