BJP’s Harish Khurana Files Nomination For Delhi Assembly Polls From Moti Nagar

New Delhi [India]: BJP candidate Harish Khurana officially filed his nomination for the Moti Nagar Assembly seat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Ahead of filing his papers, Khurana performed a traditional havan at his residence, underscoring his spiritual start to the campaign.

Khurana faces tough competition from AAP’s Shiv Charan Goel, a two-time MLA from Moti Nagar, and Congress’ Rajendra Namdhari.

BJP Leaders Criticize AAP’s Governance

Prominent BJP leaders extended their support to Khurana while launching sharp attacks on the AAP government.

Bansuri Swaraj, BJP MP, expressed her confidence in Khurana and criticized AAP’s governance.
“Delhi is tired of false promises. The people of Delhi want change, they want a BJP government. I appeal to the people to press the lotus button on February 5,” said Swaraj.

Sambit Patra, BJP MP, accused AAP of planning to reintroduce its controversial excise policy, which was previously linked to allegations of corruption and black marketing.
“In an interview, Delhi CM Atishi mentioned reintroducing the new excise policy if AAP comes to power. This policy led to a scam worth crores of rupees. Arvind Kejriwal must clarify his stance on this,” demanded Patra.

Election Schedule and Key Challenges

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. The deadline for filing nominations is January 17, followed by scrutiny on January 18. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until January 20.

While AAP is eyeing a third consecutive term by emphasizing its achievements in education and healthcare, BJP is banking on anti-incumbency and allegations of corruption against AAP.

In the 2020 Assembly elections, AAP secured a landslide victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while BJP managed to secure only 8 seats. The Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi, continues to struggle, failing to secure even a single seat in the last two elections.

Focus on Moti Nagar Constituency

The battle for Moti Nagar will be closely watched as Khurana, with his BJP credentials, challenges the stronghold of AAP’s Shiv Charan Goel. Meanwhile, Congress’ Namdhari is striving to revive his party’s dwindling influence in Delhi.

The stakes are high, with BJP aiming to reclaim its relevance in Delhi politics, AAP striving for continuity, and Congress attempting a comeback.
