“BJP’s Goal Was To Arrest Arvind Kejriwal And Get His Resignation,” Says AAP MP Sandeep Pathak

New Delhi [India]: Launching a scathing attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sandeep Pathak said that the BJP aimed to arrest former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and get his resignation to break his party.

“The BJP’s goal was to arrest Arvind Kejriwal, get his resignation and break the Aam Aadmi Party. Now Arvind Kejriwal is out, the party did not break and the whole plan of the BJP flopped. The Court granted him bail and said that there was no corruption case against him. In such a situation, he does not need to resign but he is resigning because of his morals and principles,” said Sandeep Pathak.

“He will not sit on the CM’s chair till the people give him a clean chit. The party has proposed Atishi’s name for the interim period… The whole situation is the result of the undeclared emergency imposed by the BJP…” he added further.

Earlier on Tuesday, AAP leader Atishi, who has staked claim to become the next Delhi Chief Minister, said that she is happy over the trust posed in her by the outgoing CM Arvind Kejriwal but also sad that he has resigned from his post.

Atishi, 43, is a prominent AAP leader and served as Advisor to Manish Sisodia when he was Education Minister. AAP leaders said she played a pivotal role in revamping the state of education in government-run schools in the national capital.

Atishi said that she will work to bring back Kejriwal as Chief Minister after the assembly polls, which would be held in the next few months.

She said it would not have been possible in any other party for a first-time politician to become the Chief Minister.

Atishi will be the third woman chief minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail in the national capital on September 14 after the apex court granted him bail in the Delhi excise policy case.

The apex court also imposed certain conditions on Kejriwal’s release, including that he must refrain from making public comments about the case and must attend all hearings before the trial court unless exempt.
