BJP’s Gaurav Bhatia Accuses RJD Of Undermining Constitution, Pushing Sharia Law Agenda

New Delhi [India], July 1: BJP National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia launched a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and its leader Tejashwi Yadav, alleging that their ideology goes against the Indian Constitution and that they are attempting to implement Sharia Law in place of constitutional governance.

Addressing a press conference, Bhatia said, “Those who claim to be ‘samajwadi’ (socialist) in Bihar are actually ‘namazwadi’. They have no respect for Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution and instead advocate for Sharia Law. They aim to empower only one community, while BJP stands firmly for the empowerment of backward classes, Dalits, and women, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Bhatia also accused Tejashwi Yadav of opposing the Constitutionally passed Waqf Amendment Bill, stating, “Tejashwi Yadav called for throwing the Waqf Bill into the dustbin. Can a state government disregard a law passed by Parliament and signed by the President? His comments show disrespect for the law and the judiciary.”

He further alleged that the Congress manifesto during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections included a plan to implement Sharia Law, calling for religion-based reservations, which he said was unconstitutional. “The NDA will never allow such unconstitutional ideas to take root,” he asserted.

Bhatia reminded that even Lalu Prasad Yadav in 2010 criticized the Waqf Board for land encroachments and supported stricter regulations. He argued that Tejashwi’s recent statements were aimed at dividing society.

Highlighting the pending status of the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Supreme Court, Bhatia questioned Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks on the law’s constitutionality, stating, “How can he preempt the Supreme Court’s verdict? Has Tejashwi become bigger than the judiciary?”

Criticizing the RJD’s political legacy, Bhatia said, “The Yadav family has ruled Bihar for decades without allowing leadership outside their family. They speak of youth empowerment now, but history shows they’ve only promoted dynastic politics. The people of Bihar are with the NDA, which is focused on development and inclusion.”

In response, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday countered the BJP’s repeated ‘Jungle Raj’ allegations at the Vaishya Representative Conference in Patna. He dismissed the accusations and accused the NDA of fearmongering.

“They’ve been in power for years, yet they keep blaming us. What have they done to improve trade in Bihar? How will they support small enterprises? They don’t talk about real issues—only Jungle Raj. I was Deputy CM for 18 months—did people stop going out? These tactics won’t work anymore,” Tejashwi said, as Bihar heads toward state assembly elections later this year.
