In the lead-up to the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri from Kalkaji has launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing it of attempting to “buy the democratic rights” of the people of Delhi. The remarks came after Delhi police seized a vehicle near Punjab Bhawan, reportedly linked to AAP, which contained liquor bottles and cash worth lakhs alongside AAP pamphlets.
BJP’s Allegations: AAP Exposed
- Bidhuri claimed that the Punjab government, controlled by AAP, was involved in distributing cash and liquor to influence voters ahead of the Delhi elections.
- He described the incident as “exposing Arvind Kejriwal”, further accusing the AAP of undermining democracy by attempting to “buy the rights of the public”.
- Bidhuri stated, “The public of Delhi will give a befitting reply to AAP’s corrupt practices.”
Punjab Government’s Clarification
- The Punjab government quickly issued a statement refuting the claims, asserting that the vehicle involved in the incident was not connected to the state government.
- According to the state’s clarification, the number plate on the vehicle was “forged and fake,” and the model of the car did not match the registration records.
- The vehicle, registered in the name of Maj. Anubhav Shivpuri, was described as a Ford EcoSport, whereas the car seized was identified as a Hyundai Creta.
Key Details of the Punjab Government’s Statement:
- The car’s number plate did not include the mandatory High Security Registration Plate (HSRP), which is required by law.
- The vehicle’s registration also confirmed that it did not belong to the Punjab government, nor was it hired by them.
- The number plate was flagged as an ordinary plate, making it easier to forge.
Election Tensions Escalate
- The incident has further fuelled political tensions as the BJP and AAP continue their heated battle for Delhi’s votes.
- BJP’s charges highlight concerns of corruption and illegal influence in elections, while AAP maintains its stance of being wrongfully accused, dismissing the claims as politically motivated.
With Delhi elections just days away, the political war is intensifying, with allegations flying across party lines. Will this incident sway voters’ opinions or be dismissed as another political stunt? The coming days will tell as the election battle reaches its peak.
