BJP’s Babulal Marandi Slams RIMS-2 Construction On Fertile Land In Ranchi, Warns Of Tribal-Led Protest

Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi has strongly objected to the proposed site for RIMS-2 (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences) in Ranchi’s Kanke area, claiming that the land earmarked for the project is fertile agricultural land. He has warned of a statewide protest if the government does not reconsider its decision.

“Unfortunately, the government wants to build RIMS-2 on fertile farmland. The government should find barren land instead. Farmers are being driven away, and now police have been deployed to the site,” Marandi told media during his visit to the location.

He called for the immediate withdrawal of police forces from the area and urged that farming activities be allowed to resume.

“We request the government to remove the police and let people farm. Otherwise, there will be a protest. If needed, tribals from across Jharkhand will be mobilized,” he warned.

Marandi also appealed to Chief Minister Hemant Soren to personally visit the site and assess the situation on the ground.

Cultural Backdrop & Om Birla’s Visit:

Coinciding with these tensions, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited Ranchi and was warmly welcomed by tribal artisans. He praised Jharkhand’s spiritual, cultural, and historical richness, highlighting the inspirational role of the tribal community.

“Jharkhand is a city of spirituality, religion, and culture. The tribal communities here, who fought historic battles, serve as a source of inspiration,” said Birla.

He also paid tribute to freedom fighter Birsa Munda, noting that his patriotism and courage continue to inspire tribal communities nationwide.

“We celebrate the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda Ji with great enthusiasm across the country,” Birla remarked.

Context:

  • The RIMS-2 project is a major upcoming healthcare facility meant to enhance medical infrastructure in Jharkhand.
  • However, the location of the construction site—allegedly on agriculturally productive land—has sparked local opposition.
  • Police presence in the area has added to local resentment, with villagers and political leaders calling it coercive.

What’s Next?

With political opposition mounting and farmer unrest growing, the future of the RIMS-2 project at its current site remains uncertain. All eyes are now on CM Hemant Soren, whose response could determine whether the project proceeds or faces a tribal-led resistance movement.
