New Delhi [India]: BJP MLA Harish Khurana on Monday criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for failing to respond to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports tabled in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. According to Khurana, while two CAG reports have been presented, 14 reports are still pending.
Speaking to media, Khurana said:
“This process has already begun, and more reports are yet to come. The AAP has no answers for its government. Why is Arvind Kejriwal not holding a press conference today? Because he knows he has many answers to give. Only two reports have come so far, and 14 are still pending. It is difficult for them to respond,” he stated.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta announced that the session would include discussions on the CAG report as well as a short debate on drain and sewer cleaning in the capital.
“The session will proceed according to law and rules,” said Gupta.
BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay emphasized that the BJP government would present a “crucial” report on Delhi’s health infrastructure during the session.
“If the opposition has decided that they neither worked earlier nor will allow the current government to work, then this is not possible. We will continue to work on the agenda we had decided. The irregularities that have increased in all sectors, whether it was the liquor scam or the health policy, will be discussed today,” Upadhyay asserted.
According to the list of business released by the treasury bench, the report titled “Public Health Infrastructure and Management of Health Services Relating to Government of NCT of Delhi,” prepared by the CAG, will be tabled and discussed. MLAs will also be allowed to raise matters under Rule-280 with the permission of the Chair.
Political Tensions Rise
The series of CAG reports being presented has escalated tensions between the AAP and BJP. Most AAP MLAs, except one, were suspended for three days on February 25 for protesting against the ruling party. This suspension includes prominent leaders like Atishi and Gopal Rai.
Atishi, the Delhi Leader of Opposition and AAP leader, condemned the suspension, calling it an “injustice to the opposition”. In a letter to Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, she urged him to “protect democratic values”.
The suspension ended on March 3, marking the first time the AAP MLAs would return to the Assembly since the incident. With the CAG reports and other critical issues on the agenda, the ongoing session is expected to witness intense debates and political confrontations.
